Founded by Aprila Heninger, Cracked Coconut was built from a love of thoughtful hosting and beautifully styled gatherings.
Cracked Coconut was born as a way to blend my love for hosting, my background in service, and my heart for community into something meaningful. A tropical, welcoming mobile bar that brings people together. A taste of talofa.
Talofa means hello, a warm Samoan greeting that carries love, respect and connection. The name translation comes from my late mother, who is of Samoan descent and full of life, laughter and rhythm. She would teach people how to dance and share our culture everywhere, from church events and weddings to seniors homes and luaus.
When she was teaching people how to do the fast Tahitian hula, which was one of the many dances she performed, she'd say, think of three fruits to crack and then she'd teach you how to crack them through her own playful island storytelling.
Swing your hips to the left
Crack the pineapple to the right
Crack the watermelon
And now turn around
The coconut's the hardest fruit to crack. Now crack the coconut.
Then she would turn around and show you how it was done. Hips moving fast and fierce enough to make the whole room cheer and laugh along. People loved it. When I lost my mom in May 2023, it was devastating. I felt completely lost and heartbroken, searching for a way to carry her spirit forward. I wanted to create something that would keep her presence alive, something that would let people who never met her still feel the warmth, laughter and joy she shared so effortlessly.
So Cracked Coconut isn't just a business. It's a tribute. It's about celebration, movement, connection, and the kind of joy my mom carried everywhere she went.
With a little twist of me behind the bar, mixing it all together with tropical flavors and a touch of island attitude.
One sip at a time.
